Best Fitness Trackers and Smartwatches – Battery Life, Charger and Battery saving Hacks
If you’re dreaming of getting your first exercise tracker or looking to update your existing one, it’s worth doing your homework before you take the leap. Fitness trackers used to be glorified pedometers, but now these clever devices have the potential to monitor and predict all sorts of measurements for nearly any sport for any day of activity.
This means that you should be able to find a tracker that fits your lifestyle and helps you improve your fitness and meet your sporting goals.
However, How frequently they need to be recharged varies widely. smartwatches appear to have the shortest battery life and may need regular charging, while exercise trackers typically last four or five days, and the best sports watches provide about 20-35 hours of GPS battery life, meaning they may only need to be plugged every two to three weeks depending on how often you practice.

Huami Amazfit
Huami Amazfit GTS Smart Watch
Amazfit GTS – Battery Life 14 Days
GTS features a 220mAh Lithium-ion battery which can last up to 14 days on a single charge with auto-brightness turned off, and continuous heart rate monitoring and notifications turned on.
Unfortunately, the GTS cannot last for more than three full days when the always-on display (AOD) is activated. The Amazfit GTS can be charged with the help of a Magnetic Pogo clip given in the box.
Huami Amazfit T-Rex
Amazfit T- Rex – Battery Life 20 Days
An advanced chip, new circuit design, and a deep power management and optimization give the Amazfit T-Rex a longer battery life.
The T-Rex is powered by 390mAh Lithium-ion battery which lasts for 25 straight days with occasional use of the GPS and heart monitoring function.
It can go on for 66 days on a basic mode without any fancy functions enabled.
Huami Amazfit GTR
Amazfit GTR – Battery Life 12 Days
Amazfit GTR comes with 2 variants a 47mm with a 410mAh and a battery life of 24 days and a 42mm variant with a 195mAh and a battery life of 12 days
Huami promises a battery life of 24 days on a single charge in standard use conditions, that the company specifies as ‘always-on heart rate, sleep tracking, 30 times raise to wake, run or exercise 3 times a week for 30 minutes with GPS on, and 5 minutes for other operations.’ If you turn off Bluetooth, continuous heart rate tracking, and a few other features, it can even last you up to 74 days.
Huami Amazfit Pace
Amazfit Pace- Battery Life 5 Days
Amazfit claims that PACE can last up to 5 days with regular use or 11 days with basic use (no heart rate monitor/GPS use) on a single charge. With moderate to heavy use, the PACE has no problem lasting at least 3 days on a charge, but you can certainly extract more out of it if you’re not regularly using the heart rate monitor or GPS.
The 280mAh Lithium-Ion battery can be charged within 2 hours from zero to a hundred percent with the help of a cradle charger. The cable that comes with the device is pretty long, so you shouldn’t have any problems plugging it into your computer or a nearby USB port.
Huami Amazfit Bip
Amazfit Bip – Battery Life 15 Days
The Amazfit Bip is powered by a 200mAh battery, which the company claims can offer 45 days of autonomy in a basic usage scenario and 15 days in a typical usage scenario
We got about 12 days of battery life with a default watch face, 100% brightness, automatic heart rate monitoring interval set to one minute, and more than 100 notifications throughout the day, 1 hour of workout, and 1 hour of an outdoor walk.
The Amazfit Bip smartwatch features a tidy charging dock, but the quality of the cable is not up to the mark and it might break off easily if you aren’t careful with it.

APPLE WATCH
Apple Watch Series 3
Apple Watch Series 3 – Battery Life 18 Hours
Apple has done a decent job of striking the correct balance between adding features and optimizing battery life. Apple estimates the Series 3 to last about 18 hours on a single charge. If you’re not using cellular, you can probably get close to 2 days of moderate use.
However, a 50-minute outdoor run using GPS, a 20-minute phone call, 30-minute workout, resulted in a 40 percent battery drain. You’ll definitely need to charge the battery every night, but if you plan to use LTE a lot, you might find yourself needing an emergency charge before the afternoon.
Apple Watch Series 5
Apple Watch Series 5 – Battery Life 18 Hours
Battery life on the Watch 5 isn’t as good as we found on the previous iterations. Apple claims an 18 hours battery life, With the always-on display enabled but no cellular connection, the Series 5 lasted just over a day
The Apple Watch Series 5’s always-on display doesn’t seem to be much of a battery drain, you can turn off the always-on display, making the Series 5 just like all previous Apple Watches, and reclaiming battery life. If you know you’re going to be in a situation without easy charging, this is a handy option to have around.
The watch still comes with the old-fashioned connection, meaning the second type of adapter is needed.
FITBIT
Fitbit Charge 3 Fitness Band
Fitbit Charge 3- Battery Life 7 Days
Fitbit Charge 3 fitness band is powered by a tiny 71mAh battery, Fitbit promised 7 days of battery life on the Charge 3 and it delivers up to a week of fitness-tracking and notifications, for many people, a week-long battery life would be a great reason to buy this band.
Fitbit Charge 3 fitness band is powered via a USB charging cable, and it also comes with a wall plug. Charge 3 takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours to go from 0 to 100 percent. If you’re not maxing out the exercise modes and rich brightness you’re going to reach 9 days without any problem.

Fitbit Charge 2
Fitbit Charge 2- Battery Life 5 Days
Fitbit says the Charge 2 battery will last up to 5 days depending on use. But when we tested with notifications turned on, continuous heart rate, sleep tracking, 1 hour of workout, 1 hour of outdoor walk, and general daily usage, we’ve managed to get about 4 and a half days of life out of the Charge 2.
This slight reduction of battery life is probably due to the larger display. The device sports a lithium-polymer battery with a charge time of between one and two hours.
Fitbit Versa 2
Fitbit Versa 2- Battery Life 5 Days
Fitbit says you can get up to five days of battery life on Versa 2 and it lives up to the expectations. Versa 2 easily hit the five-day mark for me in testing but, if you use the always-on display feature, you can expect that figure to roughly drop by half. Two to three days between charges is still an excellent battery life for a smartwatch.
The charging clasp is not great, an awkward plastic clasp that fits around the watch and the charging cable juts out from the bottom of the clasp, meaning the Versa 2 can’t be set down flat while charging.
Fitbit Versa
Fitbit Versa – Battery Life 4 Days
The biggest selling point for Fitbit trackers is its battery life. The company claims that the 145 mAh Lithium Polymer battery would last for 4 days but you could stretch it to five or five and half days with power-saving options.
Fitbit doesn’t opt for juicing its wearables via traditional micro USB, the provided charger is yet another unique Fitbit charger, incompatible with all but Versa. The clip-on charge cradle looks nice but it’s bulkier to pack.
FOSSIL
Fossil Gen 5
Fossil Gen 5 – Battery Life 1 Day
Battery life is decent in all the Gen 5 variants. It’s certainly better than the average Wear OS watches that struggle to make it through a full day. The “Extended” battery mode, which turns off some of the features including the always-on screen, lasts more than two days between charges, while time-only mode can last about six days.
Battery life is also improved, lasting at least a day with the “Daily” mode activated, which turns on all the functions. Charging takes just over an hour via the small white magnetic USB puck that attaches to a ring to the back.
Fossil Gen 4
Fossil Gen 4 – Battery Life 1 Day
Fossil claims a full day of battery with all its Gen 4 variants, actually the device can go up to 32 to 35 hours before dying on regular use. With the use of battery saver modes and switching off Always-On Display, the battery life could be dragged to at least two days.
The watch comes with 2 dedicated low-power modes and it can be powered by a magnetic USB rapid charger included in the box. The device can be charged from 0-60 percent in just under an hou
HUAWEI
Huawei Band 3
Huawei Band 3 – Battery Life 12 Day
The Huawei Band 3 has a 100mAh battery and the brand promises 12 days of battery life with continuous heart rate tracking and sleep tracking. It doesn’t take very long to get that battery fully restored either.
This is a week less than the 21-day battery life of the Band 2 though, and there is no doubt the result of the inclusion of that AMOLED display that along with the onboard sensors drains the battery a little quicker.
Huawei Band 4
Huawei Band 4 – Battery Life 7 Days.
Huawei Band 4 is powered by a 91 mAh Lithium-ion battery, and the brand claims a battery life of 7 days with all the features turned on and 9 days of battery life with continuous heart rate and sleep monitoring turned off.
For charging just remove the lower half of the strap and connect it to the USB port of a computer, laptop, external battery, or an adapter. This is convenient because on long trips you won’t have to take another charger with you and the cradle will not be lost anywhere.

Huawei Watch GT Sport
Huawei Watch GT – Battery Life 14 Days
Huawei Watch GT is powered by a 470 mAh battery and they claim that it would easily last for a couple of weeks on a single charge. The battery life will of course vary depending on what features you’re using. Estimates from Huawei include two weeks for mixed usage, but only around a day with full use of the GPS feature.
It takes about 2 hours to charge the GT from 0 to 100 percent mark and Huawei GT is the perfect solution to the nibbling frustration of a smartwatch that needs an everyday charge.
Huawei Watch GT 2
Huawei Watch GT 2 – Battery Life 14 Days
The two-week battery life that Huawei advertises is pretty on the point — as long as you keep some of the more sophisticated features off and don’t do too much GPS workout tracking.
Charging was quick in our experience, and it only took a little over an hour to charge the 455 mAh battery completely. The charger is compact and easy to carry around.
SAMSUNG
Samsung Galaxy Watch 3
Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 – Battery Life 2 Days
The Galaxy Watch 3 lives up to Samsung’s battery estimates of 2 days. Even with hour-long workouts and sleep tracking the watch can last for two or two and a half days. However, if you enable the always-on display setting, the battery life will drop to 24 hours in its second cycle. Still, this is better than Apple Watch 5.
The Galaxy Watch 3 can be charged with its proprietary charge or via wireless power share with a compatible Samsung phone and it takes about 2 and a half hours to charge from 0 to 100 percent.
Samsung Galaxy Watch
Samsung Galaxy Watch – Battery Life 3 Days
The Samsung Galaxy Watch comes in two variants a 46mm(470mAh) and 42mm(270mAh), expected to have a battery life of 4 and 3 days respectively. The 42mm version can come up to five days of use on a single charge, while the 46mm can last even longer. Naturally, using LTE, always-on display, GPS and other features will zap your battery faster.
Samsung’s Watch uses a special wireless charger and it takes about two hours to fill the battery 100 percent. Considering the fitness tracking and smartwatch functionality that the Galaxy Watch packs, this battery life is better than what you’d get from most other smartwatches on the market.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2
Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 – Battery Life 2 Days
The Samsung Galaxy Active 2 4G packs in a bigger battery than its predecessor, but because of the bigger display, it delivers similar battery life as the Galaxy Watch Active. However, there are factors you can control if battery life is the most important feature for you. The always-on display and some of the workout features are obvious battery drains.
The Active 2 charges wirelessly in just under two hours using a connector that magnetically attaches to the back of the watch. You can also charge a watch from the back of a Samsung smartphone with Powershare and compatible wireless chargers.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Active
Samsung Galaxy Watch Active – Battery Life 2 Days
The Galaxy Watch Active is powered by a 230mAh battery and can last for 52 to 56 hours on a single charge. The watch will notify you to switch to the Battery Saver mode, once the charge falls below 20% to get some additional battery life but cuts down the functionality. There is also a Watch Only mode where you can see only time and nothing else.
The watch will also work with other Qi wireless chargers, including phones that include the power share features and it takes about 2 and a half hours to charge from 0 to 100 percent.
MI
MI Band 3
Mi Band 3 – Battery Life 20 Days
Xiaomi’s smart bands are known for their battery life but the Mi Band 3 has lower battery life than its two predecessors and is capable of lasting 20 days on a single charge. To charge the Mi Band 3 you will need to remove the capsule from the band and use its proprietary charging cable with any computer or USB adapter.
Xiaomi claims its 110 mAh battery will last for 20 days in standby mode, but we found it lasted longer even when in use, so you won’t have to recharge this every night like some fitness trackers.
Mi Band 4
Mi Band 4 – Battery Life 20 Days
The Xiaomi Mi Band 4 sports a 135mAh battery and can last for 20 big days on a single charge. If you enable all optional features such as precise sleep tracking, heart monitor, custom clock face, the battery drains faster. Even then, you can expect the Mi Smart Band 4’s battery to last for over two weeks on a single charge.
Charging up the Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is a tedious task. You have to remove the tracker out of its band and slot it into a proprietary charger, so this won’t work with a micro USB or USB-C cable.
